Someday Soon...

A colleague shared this image with me today and we discussed how deeply this resonated with us both during this time of Sydney COVID lockdowns.

As a society and country we are experiencing collective grief and trauma. Right now it is normal for things to feel very much like the large circle on the left... feelings of fear, sadness, pain, disappointment, anger, frustration and many others may feel as if they fill our whole day.

A favourite quote of mine is that of "you have already survived your worst day". This permits us to acknowledge the difficulty of our present moment but also connect to our inner resilience and strength. It is this resilience that allows us, in time, to move to the part of the image on the right; where we can make space for and accept all experiences that happen to us - good or bad. We learn how to allow them to be part of our journey but not become the dominant story or theme.

Next time you feel you are stuck in the grey circle on the left, recognise it, acknowledge it, allow yourself to be exactly where you are and then remind yourself that, someday soon, the colour will arrive again and this day and moment will once again turn into one of the many circles on the right.
